Spartathlon Send Off Run For Walker Higgins

  • The Block 711 Jefferson Highway Baton Rouge, LA, 70806 United States (map)

Walker is heading for Greece next week so we wanted to have a send-off run.

Warm up down Esplanade to Audubon and back. **For shorter warm up turn around at half way.

MEET AT THE GOODWOOD STARTING LINE

Walker is going to talk briefly about his 153 mile challenging journey.

Together as a group….we are going to run with Walker what he hopes to average over the race. Don’t worry - not everyone is expected to keep up. We’ll do a mile or 2 loops of the park.

Try at least one loop with Walker.

Workout is Cruise Intervals.

Cruise intervals mean that you are doing a pickup smoothly not really worried about about the time.

The faster interval will be 220 yards. Cones will be out around the park.

Do 1-4 loops of the park with 220 cruise interval followed by 220 easy.

Cool down straight back to The Block or add miles as needed.

PREDICTED WALKER’S FINISH TIME - sign up with your prediction of Walker’s finish time for prizes from Varsity Sports and The Block BR.

SPARTATHLON is a historic ultra-distance foot race that takes place in September of every year in Greece. It is one of the most difficult and satisfying ultra-distance races in the world because of its unique history and background.
The Spartathlon revives the footsteps of Pheidippides, an ancient Athenian long distance runner, who in 490 BC, before the battle of Marathon, was sent to Sparta to seek help in the war between the Greeks and the Persians.
According to the ancient Greek historian Herodotus, Pheidippides arrived in Sparta the day after his departure from Athens.
It is 153 miles!
